Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Ukrainian Village
Our academy is on the second floor of 2643 W Chicago Ave, the same street as the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and a short trip from the domes of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Our own flyers call this area Ukrainian Village / West Town, and the neighbors who train with us make it feel like home. Brazil 021 is a jiu-jitsu school in Chicago led by world champion black belts.
Brazil 021 Chicago is part of an international team with schools in Brazil, the US and Canada, founded by black belts Andre “Negão” Terencio and Hannette Staack. Here in the neighborhood, it is simply the place down the street where people learn jiu-jitsu and look out for each other.
Living this close makes consistency easy, and consistency is what turns beginners into blue belts. Morning, evening and Saturday options mean there is almost always a class that fits.

Getting to Our BJJ Gym From Ukrainian Village
Most Ukrainian Village students walk or bike along Chicago Ave. The #66 Chicago Ave bus stops along Chicago Ave, and the #49 Western Ave bus stops at Chicago and Western, just east of the academy.
Driving? Street parking is available on Chicago Ave and the side streets.
BJJ Ukrainian Village Chicago Classes for Adults and Kids
With the gym this close, it is easy to train often. Adults can start in Gi or No-Gi Fundamentals and move up when ready. Kids get structured classes that build discipline and confidence.
Kids classes are a favorite with neighborhood families. Coaches teach discipline, respect and self-control, and kids leave proud of what they learned that day.
- Adults Beginners (Gi): Mon & Wed 6:30 PM, Tue & Thu 6:30 AM
- Adults All Levels (Gi): Tue & Thu 6:30 PM
- Kids Class 1 (ages 3–6) and Kids Class 2 (ages 7–12)
- Private lessons with a black belt, by appointment

Coming Soon to the Neighborhood
We are planning a Kids After-School Program with pickup from schools near the academy by professional drivers, homework time and real BJJ training, plus a 6-week Women’s BJJ & Self-Defense program coached by Hannette Staack. Both are on an interest list for now.
Want to start today? Your first class is free.
